Brent Devost

B.Ed.
HEAD OF SCHOOL

Brent has been coaching, teaching and mentoring students both in and out of the classroom for over 25 years, and developing young leaders has been both his lifelong passion and commitment. Through his vision and keen understanding of how to build, lead and foster teams, he has carved out creative and successful paths for thousands of students.

In 1999 Brent founded the Edge School, a Calgary based independent school offering a comprehensive education focused on three key pillars: Academics, Athletics and Leadership Development. Through Brent’s vision and leadership, the Edge School created a unique and first-of-its-kind environment for student-athletes in Calgary.

Under Brent’s direction and drive as President and Chief Executive Officer, Edge School grew from 7 students in 1999 to 320 students over a decade later and in 2009 moved into a the newly constructed 170,000 sq ft Edge School and Jim Davidson Sports Complex on the West side of the City.

Out of the classroom, Brent also has extensive coaching experience. His hockey coaching accolades include a Mac’s Midget Tournament Championship with the Calgary Royals, and runner-up two years later with the Calgary Northstars.

Brent also spent a very productive year on the coaching staff with the McGill University Redmen, the world’s oldest university hockey program. Brent was also the co-founder and inaugural Chairman of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League, and the first High School Hockey Chair as a member of the Hockey Calgary Board. Brent’s work on this Board was instrumental in reintroducing school hockey to Calgary schools after a 30 year absence.

In 2006 Brent was named one of the city’s “Top 40 Under 40” by Calgary Inc., in recognition of his vision, boundless energy, contagious work ethic and contributions to the community at large in successfully forging a new educational model on the Calgary landscape.

Brent has a B.Ed. in Elementary Education and Teaching from the University of Calgary. Brent lives in Cochrane with his lovely wife Andrea, and together they take on the challenges of raising their three wonderful children.
