October 22, 2020

Oh Friday the boys had the opportunity to give the Visions Sport Centre a trial run by playing Ball Hockey there as part of their Action Friday. Visions Sport Centre will replace the SAIT gym as our off-campus gym location. Our students also visited the Christine Klassen Gallery, where they were exposed to some world class art, as part of their art class. A truly well rounded education.

School Immunization Program
  1. Students who are currently in grade 6 will be immunized for their Hepatitis B (HBV) and/or Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine series in the school setting. Watch for consent forms going home in the next week or so.
  2. Students in grade 6 in the 2019-2020 school year (now in grade 7) who did not complete their Hepatitis B (HBV) and/or Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine series will be immunized within the school setting. We will only immunize those Grade 7 students with a signed consent form from the previous school year(s).
  3. Students in other grades where an immunization consent form was signed in the previous school year(s) will be immunized in the school setting in order to complete any outstanding immunization series.

If you do not wish your child to complete their immunization series or your child was immunized privately within the past 6 months, please contact your school’s designated Community Health Centre.

By Riley C., Grade 6 – Mr. Hirtle

On Mondays, does your son ever come home with a project?  If so, that is because we go to the Roots 2 STEM lab (Science / Technology / Engineering / Math) which is an Engineering Academy for students.  The man who has brought STEM to our school is Mr. Dean White.  Mr. White always has something interesting and creative for us to work on at the STEM lab.

My favourite project that I ever did in STEM including last year, would be making cars with motors.  If you built it correctly, it would race 20 feet.  In every STEM class, each student can pick a partner, or two to work on a project.   And we always make something cool.

Some of the other cool things that we have made include foam board houses, 3D designs on the PC’s, plastic space crafts with a dissolvent, cars with actual motors, and greenhouses.  Once we are finished, we get to take them home to show our parents.

I also participated in the STEM after-school program last year, and I would recommend this to all students if it becomes available again.  We mainly worked on circuit light boards and sometimes would build small projects like a bridge made from popsicle sticks.

This is a definite key feature of North Point, and I am fortunate that we can do this, as other schools and kids don’t have access to an amazing facility.
