We had the head coach for Calgary Team Handball, Khalil El Haddoui, join us in our grade 8, 7 and 6 physical education classes to ensure we had a chance to properly learn this amazing sport. It was fantastic to see our student-athletes embrace handball and show great understanding and creativity along with their skills and athleticism! Last Thursday we had the chance to play the full game on the sport-court at Visions Sport Center.
With this foundation set, we will be sure to look for exhibition matches against any other interested schools. Students interested in learning more are invited to check out Coach Khalil’s Tuesday night practice sessions at Visions (7:00-8:30pm). Please email Mr. Humeniuk for more information.

Physical Education

In addition to handball in Physical Education, we kicked badminton off in style with the Gr. 6, 7 and 8 students making good use of the fantastic facilities at SAIT during their Physical Education classes. This opportunity has been helpful as they try this sport, learn the rules and develop the skill and understanding required. Our younger students are trying out badminton in our own gym with portable badminton nets.
Athletics
Basketball
In CISAA Sports, our basketball teams wrapped up the season last week with a string of close games and amazing moments. Gr. 8 boys were in a tight pool that traded wins and lost out in a tough round robin, while the Gr. 7 team breezed to a bronze medal after being defeated in the semifinal by a single point. The improvement in skill was matched by their growth in character and it is all thanks to the leadership, values and enduring energy that Coach Qureshi brought to the boys! A handful of players from these teams attended the U of C Dinos Game on Friday night! This was a great way to end the week and watch some entertaining basketball. There is another even bigger opportunity to catch some international basketball next Wednesday at WinSport. This is a school wide and family event – see the section above for more details.
Curling
Our North Point High School Curling Team begins their playoffs on Friday and the season wraps up next Wednesday (March 16th). The commitment from this team and the sportsmanship they have demonstrated has received praise from other coaches and players! Good Luck and have fun until the end of this city championship!
Badminton
The next sport in CISAA play is Badminton! North Point Badminton teams for Gr. 7, 8, 9, & High School will have after school practices/matches in April. Stay tuned for more information on this and other upcoming CISAA sports!
eSports
This week North Point welcomed Emmett P. to the eSports team, he contributed to the 4-2 win over Springs Studio from Colorado. North Point eSports takes on Lyman High School from Wyoming, USA next week.
