Tom M. and Lennon G. were the winners of our 5R draw this month.

12 days of North Point

One of our yearly traditions is that Mr. Redick enlists the oldest boys to perform a rendition of the 12 days of North Point. This year they didn’t disappoint and this year we actually had 12 high school boys to perform each of the 12 parts! For those who missed the show, here are the lyrics:

On the first day of North Point, Devo gave to us: A new high school campus for us
On the second day of North Point, Devo gave to us: Two Christmas trees
On the third day of North Point, Devo gave to us: Three months till Utah
On the fourth day of North Point, Devo gave to us: Four comfy couches
On the fifth day of North Point, Devo gave to us: Five hotdogs for Jack
On the sixth day of North Point, Devo gave to us: Six new staff members
On the seventh day of North Point, Devo gave to us: Seven new (HS) students
On the eighth day of North Point, Devo gave to us: Eight minutes to Safeway
On the ninth day of North Point, Devo gave to us: Nine not in dress code
On the tenth day of North Point, Devo gave to us: Ten sour soothers
On the eleventh day of North Point, Devo gave to us: Eleven day till Christmas
On the twelfth day of North Point, Devo gave to us: Twelve Subway cookies

Performance a Smashing Success

Our Theatre Lunch Club, under the direction of Aliza Sarian, presented the play “5 Ways to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse” for the student body in the afternoon and then again to their families in the evening. The play was performed “in the round” with the stage set in the middle of the audience. Congratulations to our actors who did an amazing job preparing, learning their parts and being courageous in showcasing their talent. Well done!

We are excited to announce that we will be adding a new teacher, Mitchell Schneider, to our team starting January 3rd.

Mr. Schneider has been a substitute teacher for us in various grades this year.

Mr. Schneider will be spending his mornings at our Richmond Campus where he will be teaching grade 7 PE as well as supporting teachers in various classrooms.  In the afternoons, he will be at our Currie Campus teaching grade 9 health as well as supporting teachers primarily with our Grade 9 class.

Welcome to North Point Mr. Schneider!

Mr. Schneider graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Education Degree and has 10 years of experience working in youth and post-secondary sport. He has taught in classrooms from pre-k through grade 12 and believes strongly in the philosophy that the foundation of teaching is to build strong relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and school communities. He strives to use a student-first approach to learning in and outside of the classroom to promote students on their learning journey.  Mitchell grew up in a small farming town in rural Saskatchewan and believes in the value of volunteering and building community to make an impact on others.

Mr. Schneider has been coaching  club level, provincial and college volleyball for more than 10 years and is an NCCP certified Performance Coach.  He has also coached in numerous high performance and development camps across Alberta and Saskatchewan, while he has spent most of his coaching time in volleyball, He loves coaching all sports and loves to give back to athletes whenever he can.  He is currently an assistant coach with the Women’s volleyball program with the SAIT Trojans.

When he is not teaching or coaching, Mr. Schneider enjoys spending time outside hiking and exploring nature with his dogs, Winston and Penelope.  He is a lifelong fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and appreciated opportunities to travel back to Saskatchewan to spend time with family, fish, camp, and help on the family farm.

SMG introduces young people to saving and investing through a real-world simulation of the stock and bond markets. Students get to trade and manage their own virtual $100,000 investment portfolio. The Financial Academy’s Stock Market Game Resource Page includes competition details, video tutorials, lessons, and a portfolio leaderboard that ranks NP teams against hundreds of other teams in our region. A $250 prize will be awarded to the NP team with the greatest equity on April 15, 2022. Take the Tour of The Stock Market Game here.

Schoolwide Donations

The generosity of our North Point family is astounding. With your help, we are able to make a positive difference for many families this year. Thank you for partnering with us!

After a very busy Fall in North Point athletics, this Winter Break provides a welcome pause for our relentless and committed North Point athletes and teams.  It is great to reflect on the amazing amount of athletes from North Point who became a big part of our school culture by joining a school team this year so far!  We had students participating in Cross Country Running, Golf, Volleyball, Ultimate and Wrestling and we have just started the basketball season.

Although we are taking a break for this holiday season, basketball will heat up in January with new games in place and tournaments to look forward to.

On that note, we want to let our Gr. 9, 10, 11 and 12 North Point students know about another exciting opportunity in team sports!  North Point school is planning on entering a school team in Calgary High School Curling starting in January of 2022. While more information is forthcoming, please feel free to use the following link to let us know if your son is interested in pursuing this amazing and approachable sport (and always feel free to contact Mr. Humeniuk with any questions or need further information ).
