Our outdoor Townhall

We’ve had a great first week! The weather was absolutely perfect for our outdoor Welcome Townhall! We had lots of room to distance and what could be better than doing anything school related outside! We welcomed 27 new students and 1 new teacher. We can’t wait to see how our students, both new and returning, will MAKE IT MATTER this year! On, Wednesday we spent the afternoon outside, once again, participating in our Navigator Challenges. This was an awesome way for our four squads to get to know each other!

Parent Wellness & School Re-Entry

Webinar with Dr. Brent Macdonald

We’ve all gone through the annual school start up, both personally as students and as parents.  There is always a feeling of excitement and fear, anxiety and hope.  2020 is obviously different.  In this webinar, Dr. Brent Macdonald will discuss some of the most commonly expressed fears and anxieties students might be feeling, along with the school’s response.  The primary focus, though, will be on parent wellness.  We all know that analogy about what to do if a oxygen mask drops while we are in a plane – we place the mask on ourselves before attending to the needs of others.  While broadly speaking, this is good advice, Dr. Brent Macdonald will examine the advantages of not getting on planes that may be more likely to crash in the first place!  Evidence-based approaches and a strong focus on mental toughness will underlie the approach used in this webinar.

Dr. Brent Macdonald is a registered psychologist in Alberta, PEI, Nova Scotia,  and the Northwest Territories, and is a certified teacher with over 25 years’ experience working with individuals with a variety of complex learning differences. He has taught at the junior and senior high level and was the assistant principal at an independent school for students with learning disabilities. He is a sessional instructor in the Departments of Psychology, Continuing Education, and Community, Health & Education at Mount Royal University.  He is also an adjunct assistant professor with the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary.

Brent is a frequent guest on CBC Radio, Global Morning and Global Newshour, Breakfast Television, and CTV2’s Alberta Primetime. He is currently the lead psychologist with his own practice, Macdonald Psychology Group (complexlearners.com), which in addition to providing counselling and assessment services, also provides consultation services to educators and parents.

PEP HOCKEY

We are pleased to be offering the Power Edge Pro (PEP) Hockey Academy again this year.

PEP has emerged as the leader in hockey skill training. With Reactive Countering Training © being the base for the hockey skill training, players quickly learn to coordinate their hands, feet, eyes, brain & conditioning to significantly improve their hockey skills.  Mr. Fagan and Mr. Kostecki will be coaching the program this year.

The program will commence on Tuesday, September 29th and finish on Thursday, March 25th, 2021.  The boys will then be re-integrating back into the regular PE program on Tuesdays and Thursdays with their peers.
