April 21, 2022

WOW what a week! The epic snowfall on Tuesday has reinvigorated the fort building frenzy at the Richmond Campus and snow pants and snow shovels are back in vogue. A HUGE fort has been built as a result of lots of co-operation and camaraderie and nearly all the snow on the field has been used up.

Mother’s Day Tea

Save the Date: Friday, May 6th

We are excited to be able to host the 2nd annual Mother’s Day Tea after a two year break. Here are a couple of reminders about the tea. We ask that every boy invite one special lady. If their mom is unable to attend, please have them invite an aunt, sister or grandma. Please do not bring and siblings. The boys are welcome to go home after their time slot with a parent. Below are the times of the tea for each of the grades:

  • Gr. 7/8 9:00-10:00am
  • Gr. 6 11:00am-12:00pm
  • K-5 1:00-2:00pm

If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Jenn

SAVE THE DATE: Coming Sunday, June 5th

“Boys In Business” is now “Young Entrepreneurs” Annual Business Fair

On June 5, hundreds of Calgarians (including you we hope!) will come to WinSport and shop at the dozens of small businesses managed by our young entrepreneurs from K to 12. “Young Entrepreneurs” has grown to be one of Canada’s largest youth business fairs.

We would like to thank Barrel Oil Corp for being a major sponsor of this year’s event. Stay tuned for more information coming real soon!

MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear NP Parents,

We will be adding North Point to the list of schools that will try and help provide educational programming to any displaced Ukrainian refugees that are welcomed into Alberta.  We will review any applications we receive on a case-by-case basis to determine if we can indeed provide the appropriate support until the end of this school year and will re-visit this opportunity again for the 2022-23 school year.

We will be putting a notification on our website and asking our community if there is anyone they would like to put us in touch with.

Obviously, the language barrier will be a huge challenge to overcome, but we will do our best to determine with any applicants we get, if and how we can help.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Sincerely,
Brent

Notice for High School Parents

We have received a request from the Assistant Property Manager at the Currie Campus that parents consider using alternative routes to get to Sarcee Road (Quesnay Wood Drive to Richardson Way or Quesnay Wood Drive Dieppe to Richardson Way) as they are receiving a significant rise in complaints about several pedestrian and vehicle near misses due to excess traffic going through the Phase 1 and 2 residential areas (West of the new park) around the school drop off and pick up times.  Although these alternate routes may add a few more minutes to the commute, it will go a long way in keeping everyone safe.

Athletics

Badminton

The CISAA Badminton Championship was held this week and we had players from grade 7, 8, and 9 in attendance.  This was a huge event with many amazing individual efforts as our North Point athletes competed against some of the best players in the city.  While this was the last league wide badminton event, we are considering putting together a wind-up event just for our North Point athletes. Stay tuned.

Floor Hockey

With Badminton now wrapping up, we do have our next single day event, floor hockey taking place next week.  On Tuesday, April 26th, we will have TWO teams of grade 7,8 & 9 students competing in the CISAA 8/9 Floor Hockey Tournament at Bearspaw Christian School.  We wish these players the best of luck, fun times and great results.

Track & Field

Weekly track and field practices also started this week.  Our plan to head to the Glenmore Track was sidelined as the track was closed due to inclement weather so the team held the first practice at the Richmond campus.  We have two more after school track practices planned on April 28th and May5th.  A school wide track meet for North Point students in grade 6-12 is scheduled for May 12th.

Rugby

Further to this, we are continuing with our rugby training (next practice is April 26th after school) and we will be releasing the sign up for the North Point Jr High school soccer team in short order.
