Brent Devost, B. Ed.

Head of School

Brent has been coaching, teaching and mentoring boys both in and out of the classroom for over 25 years, and developing young leaders has been both his lifelong passion and commitment. Through his vision and keen understanding of how to build, lead and foster teams and environments, he has carved out creative and successful paths for thousands of students. MORE

Scott Kostecki, B. Ed.

Assistant Principal/Teacher

Scott has been inspiring students in his math and science classrooms for over 15 years. After graduating with his Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba in 2000, Scott traveled to Leeds, England where he taught for 3 years and created an Education Centre inside of a Coca Cola bottling facility. Upon his return to Canada, Scott joined the Edge School for Athletes staff and spent 12 years making a difference in the lives of students, staff and parents on a daily basis. MORE

Brendan Fagan, BA, B. Ed.


Brendan is a recent graduate from the University of Calgary’s Education program, specializing in Social Studies education. He brings fresh knowledge of progressive pedagogy to the North Point team. Community involvement and volunteering were an integral part of his education. As a former competitive hockey student-athlete, Brendan values teamwork and work ethic and remains passionate about physical fitness.

Nancy Fairhead, BA, B. Ed.

Teaching Assistant

We are so fortunate to have been able to secure someone with Nancy’s teaching experience and expertise to take on the role of Teaching Assistant (Monday’s & Wednesday’s) to all three of our mentor groups. Nancy has been teaching and motivating students for the last 15 years in and around Calgary. As a native Calgarian, Nancy graduated twice from the University of Calgary. Her first degree is a BA in Archaeology and shortly after, a B.Ed. in the Masters of Teaching Program. MORE

Jason Hirtle, B. Ed.


Since graduating from St. Francis Xavier University in 1996, Jason has continued his passion for personal growth, education and coaching for the past 20 years. Growing up in a rural Nova Scotia public school environment, having his children in the Alberta Catholic school system and then teaching in the Alberta private school sector, has enabled Jason to have a well-rounded and unique perspective on student behaviour and learning. Dave Jackson

Business Manager

Dave’s entire 30 year career as Business Manager has been in the Private School sector. He brings the whole package to North Point School. After spending 20 years as Business Manager in a private school in Vancouver and 10 years at two other Calgary private schools (Calgary French & International School and EDGE School for Athletes), Dave accepted the challenge to join an incredible team to get North Point started and grow this innovative school to its full potential. Veronique Perks, B. Comm.

Marketing Director

Veronique is in her element developing creative solutions to establish North Point as a key player in the Calgary market. After a long career in large corporate consulting and product management, she transitioned to marketing for small businesses, Calgary International & French School, Edge School and now at North Point School. While she is learning to relate to how boys think, Veronique is more at home chasing her two daughters around race courses on ski hills and enjoying downtime learning to play the piano.

Les Redick, M. Ed.


Les Redick brings over 30 years of core subject teaching experience to our team. He recently completed a M. Ed. with a focus on ADHD, a subject area he speaks on internationally to educators and other industry professionals. This overall experience combined with his Outdoor Education specialty, makes Les a well-rounded teacher and mentor for North Point boys. MORE

Laina Stewart, B. Ed.


Laina recently graduated with her Bachelor of Education, majoring in Elementary Education, at the top of her class. She spent the last year substitute teaching in Rocky View School Division and the Calgary Board of Education. She spent two years tutoring an ESL student while completing her education, and tutored a high school student with learning disabilities while substitute teaching in the past year. MORE

Kim Pirie, MBA, BA Honours
Founder & Board Chair

Since its inception in 1993, Kim has been the Managing Director of the Pirie Foundation, a private foundation that focuses on investment in education. Prior to that she was Manager of Exploration and Corporate Affairs at Sabre Energy Ltd., and from 1987 to 1991, she worked as a Geologist with Shell Canada.

Michael Walker, PhD, LLD, DSS
Board Member

Michael is a Senior Fellow and Honorary Director at The Fraser Institute, and Chairman of the Fraser Institute Foundation. From its inception in 1974 until 2005, Michael directed the research activities of the Fraser Institute and was its Chief Executive Officer. His principle concern has been to promote the examination and use of competitive markets as a method for enhancing human development. Michael has provided policy advice in this pursuit on 6 continents, and as an economist, has also authored numerous books and articles on other popular and technical economic issues.


Karen Pirie, LLB, BA Honours
Board Member

Since 1989, Karen has been an Associate and Partner in the Litigation Department of a national law firm. She practices primarily in the area of Medical Malpractice defence, acting for doctors and other health care professionals. Karen is a frequent lecturer in advocacy and medical legal issues.


Will Matthews, B.Sc., MBA
Board Member

Will Matthews is a financial professional with 20 years of investing experience in the credit and equity markets and real estate. Since 2009, Will has been actively investing in the self storage sector in Canada and the US. From 2003 through 2009, he was a credit investor and portfolio manager with Liberty Harbour, a Goldman Sachs hedge fund, and Amaranth Advisors in both New York and Singapore.

John Blevins, B.Ed, M.Ed
Board Member

John is recently retired from Alberta Education after dedicating over 24 years of service. During his tenure there, he was a Curriculum Consultant, Policy Consultant and a Senior Education Manager. He has been associated with the field of education for the past 44 years during which he has worked as a teacher (elementary, junior high and senior high), an administrator, a consultant, and a university instructor.
John also has experience as a small business owner, in government departments, and in radio and television. He currently runs a management consulting firm.
